The Glasgow School of Yarn began life as a birthday celebration for The Yarn Cake, back in 2011 (which makes GSoY the longest running yarn show in Scotland!).
When The Yarn Cake first opened its doors in 2010, it became Scotland's first dedicated knitting café, and has been serving the yarny craft community for over 13 years now. Located in the vibrant west end of Glasgow, it quickly became a beloved spot for knitters and crocheters of all skill levels.
In 2023, The Yarn Cake relocated to bigger and better premises on Crow Road, remaining in its West End home, which allowed them to expand their range of stock and facilitate more events. This move was met with much support and excitement from the local fibre crafts community, and resulted in the Thursday Knit N Natter expanding to a second evening, so that everyone could come along and join in!
The Yarn Cake's dedication to quality and exceptional service has not gone unnoticed. Since 2013, the shop has been nominated in the prestigious British Knitting Awards every year. Their consistent excellence has led them to win the coveted "Best Independent Yarn Shop - Scotland" category three times, a testament to their commitment to providing the best knitting materials and resources to their customers.
The Yarn Cake focusses on British Yarns and natural fibres and stocks a good selection of needles, notion, kits, books, Ashford spinning supplies and more! If you linger after your yarn shopping, you can kick back and relax on their squishy sofa, fuel up with a selection of freshly baked cakes, teas, and coffees and craft the afternoon away! With access to regular events, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved with Glasgow’s knitting and crafting community too.
Whether you’re a crafter or a cake lover (or both!), their friendly and experienced team are always on hand to help.
