Bringing Yarn to Glasgow since 2011

Our Story

A celebration of creativity and craftsmanship

Much like The Yarn Cake’s beginnings being firmly rooted in a passion for yarn (and cake), sheer dumb luck and a lot of gentle nudging by friends, Glasgow School of Yarn was a bit of an accident of ambition!

Back in 2011, we were given the opportunity to host Amy Singer of knitty.com as a tutor right around the shop’s first birthday and - in a flurry of optimism and naiveté - we promptly emailed and then booked some of the brightest stars of the knitting world: Stephen West (who ended up spending part of his birthday sleeping off jet lag on my sofa!), Carol Feller (who arrived with a box of Barry’s Tea!) and Ann Kingstone that first year; Woolly Wormhead, Liz Lovick, Rachel Coopey and many others in the years following.

After an only partly voluntary hiatus from 2016 onwards, we were back in business at our new home The Trades Hall in 2021 and it was the most uplifting weekend anyone could have hoped for. Lovely faces, old and new, stunning colours filling the spaces, and a smattering of classes, we somehow pulled off an absolutely fabulous show with only 7 weeks notice!

We've been at the Trades Hall ever since and, with significantly more than 7 weeks notice, are very excited about this year's marketplace and programme!
